And I am forced to fix the formulas (often in a panic) before my lecture. But usually (or eventually), the symbol-italic is also not available in KN, and then all the old formulas show q's for theta's and p's for pi's etc. (Note that most of the legacy formulas were inserted from MT with cut and paste, before the integration with KN was available.) Sometimes when I close the MT window, the fonts are still ok in KN that is, a q in MT is a theta in KN. But if I then open MathType to edit something, the symbol-italic font is not available within MathType. If I open a legacy Keynote file after a reboot, the formulas are fine. These behaviours are somewhat inconsistent: If I then open a new file in Keynote, I can insert MT equations with the symbol-italic font. After a reboot, if I open MathType, it is ok symbol-italic is there.Ģ. These two behaviours seem to be consistent:ġ. I have some more information on the problem: (Thanks for taking the time to help sort this out.) ![]() In Word, it is still possible to use symbol-italic. So, another question I have is why does iWork not allow symbol-italic even in its own text boxes? The symbol font is there, but only plain is allowed. I wonder if the problem is something other than non-Unicode fonts. What font does MathType say you are using for lower case greek if you go to Style/Define? If I select symbol-italic there, I do not see greek letters even within MathType. If I do this (using Preview), I get the symbol font in keynote. You can define the font to be used for this palette in Style/Define, and unicode greek is not an option.Įven so, the Greek characters I got via copy/paste from Mathtype's save as function were Unicode. To edit these equations, you copy and paste back to MathType. ![]() In any case, I think the old equations that are changing unpredictably now, were inserted from MT5 (before the keynote integration was available) using a simple copy and paste (which also produces some kind of graphic). How are you doing it? The graphic from Insert-MathType is editable with MathType. ![]() ![]() If you open the eps in Preview and copy and paste, you lose the equation formatting. You also get some kind of graphic if you save as eps and then insert from a file (which is way more work, by the way). It's not clear to me how the font in that could ever change. Using the keynote insert system, you seem to wind up with a kind of graphic in keynote. If anyone has any suggestions for ℹ getting back the old symbol-italic in MathType, (ii) preventing the re-rendering from happening on old files, or (iii) performing a batch change for all formulas in a file, I'd appreciate hearing them. Strangely, sometimes when I first open an old file, the formulas are fine (with the old symbol-italic), then suddenly, they all go bad, as if they've decided to re-render themselves, and I have no idea what I've done to trigger this. What's worse, is that sometimes, when I am editing old lecture notes (in Keynote), the old formulas have to be changed, meaning opening every one, redefining the style, and re-saving. However, with the new unicode font system in SL, this option gives some strange roman font, and so I now have to use symbol plain. I have always used symbol italic for lower case Greek variables, which is my preference, and I thought the default. Since I upgraded to snow leopard, I have had problems with the symbol font used by MathType (in Keynote).
